Kent, Ohio – Main Street Kent’s event planning committee and downtown businesses have created some fantastic plans for Wizardly Weekend on July 19 & 20 in downtown Kent! Wizardly Weekend is presented by Meijer and Summa Health, also generously sponsored by College Town Kent, Portage Community Bank, Off the Wagon, Hometown Bank, Acorn Alley, Central Portage County VCB and The Thresholds Group. All are excited to present an incredible lineup of weekend activities.
On Fri., July 19, plans include The Run That Shall Not Be Named “Follow the Spiders” 5 3/4 K and 1-mile fun runs hosted by Kent Parks and Recreation at Fred Fuller Park. Standing Rock Cultural Arts will host a Magical Movie Night (title to be announced) at dusk at the Hometown Bank Plaza. On Sat., July 20, visit the Vendor Village from 11am to 6pm on Erie St., with 40 booths featuring hand-crafted, event-themed items including plush dolls, sweet treats, creatures, magic wands, potion bottles and more. (All vendors have been selected for this event and the committee is not accepting additional submissions.) Par for the Curse, a 9-hole miniature golf event, will take place from noon to 3pm, featuring wizardly-themed miniature golf holes at participating businesses along N. Water St. and Crain Ave. Play golf and stop to enjoy the other attractions and treats along the way! https://tick-etstripe.com/events/8033105509063925. At Dan Smith Community Park, Swish & Flick will host a live podcast at 2pm and costume contests throughout the day. At the Hometown Bank Plaza, from 11am to 6pm, there will be wand making with Kent Junior Mothers, potion making with the Kent Community Time-Bank, a Raptor Meet and Greet, plus face painting, origami art, quadball demo, and a other family-friendly activities.
Throughout the weekend, many businesses will have decorations and photo opportunities for all to enjoy. Kent Sportswear will feature event-themed t-shirts, Daisy Pops will offer wizards the opportunity to make their own house cake pops, the FJKluth Art Gallery will have magic and juggling, Branded in Kent will have indoor tabletop quadball, Tree City Coffee will host cookie decorating classes, Evelyn Dickerson Hair Design will offer hair tinsel and col-ored hair extensions, Kent Cycle will be offering Wizard Wagon (pedicab) rides; plus, many other busi-nesses have plans in the works. “We’re really excited to bring Wizardly Weekend back again with a good balance of fun activities that en-tertain guests and support our local businesses. We’ll have one road closure for a vendor area during the day on Saturday, plus photo opportunities and activities spread out around town on both days. We look forward to hosting another fun-filled weekend in Kent,” said Main Street Kent executive director Heather Malarcik. Many local bars, shops and restaurants will feature special menu items including themed cock-tails, buttery beverages, chocolate wands, and other merchandise all weekend.
