Re-dedication of Salmon Carter House Aug. 17 11am-2pm, local officials and community members are invited to take a tour of the newly renovated Greek Revival farmhouse, furnished with period items. The house received state capital funding in recent years to get a new roof, new wiring, installation of air conditioning, leveled floors, new paint and a new alarm and fire system, said Debbie Sunderland, president of the Portage County Historical Society. There is also now a connection between the Salmon Carter House and the Historical Society’s museum, making the buildings handicap accessible. The Salmon Carter House was built in 1832 by one of the first-generation European settlers in the Western Reserve, Salmon Carter. The Historical Society acquired it in 1962 and has kept it in shape since then with many restoration projects throughout the years.
This house is just one example of the work that the Historical Society does. Their 12-acre campus is full of history, and some of their houses are available for rent.
RSVP is required for the re-dedication event either through a call to the museum at 330-296-3523 or to Sunderland at 330-730-2114.
