Kent, Ohio – Main Street Kent’s event planning committee, known as the “Mischief Management” team, is happy to announce plans for Wizardly Weekend on July 23 – 24 in downtown Kent. More than twenty businesses will feature menu specials, wizardly treats and magical merchandise, and a host of activities have been planned for the weekend, thanks to the support of Meijer, Hometown Bank and Off the Wagon, all dedicated to keeping the magic alive in downtown Kent.
The weekend will kick off with the “Run That Shall Not Be Named 5 3/4 K — The Time Has Come”. This non-competitive fun run will take participants on a magical journey through the Kent State University campus on Friday, July 23 and participants are highly encouraged to dress in themed costumes for the event. The race will begin at 6pm on the Lester Lefton Esplanade. Registration is $30 per person and includes a race bib, time turner race medal and event t-shirt (must register by July 15 to receive t-shirt). Visit https://runsignup.com/wizardlyworldkent to see this year’s designs and to register.
The Wobbly Wizard Bar Crawl sponsored by High Noon will also take place on Friday, July 23. Sign up in advance, then check-in at Water Street Tavern to pick up a crawl “pass” and event swag, and head out for a magical night on the town, enjoying fun photo opportunities and drinks along the way! All participants will be entered in a grand prize drawing. More details and tickets https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2021-wobbly-wizard-bar-crawl-tickets-160044604721
On Saturday, July 24, take part in “Par for the Curse,” a magical miniature golf excursion in downtown Kent. Check-in at Kent Sportswear, a soon-to-be-open retailer located at 125 S. Water St., to pick up your golden golf ball, score card & pencil, and spend the afternoon playing putt putt! Bring your own putter if you wish, and stop for lunch, drinks, and shopping along the way. After the round, enter your scores online for a chance to win a Wizardly Weekend gift basket! Tickets are $12 each, available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/par-for-the-curse-putt-around-downtown-tickets-158454079417
Also on Saturday, Kent Junior Mothers will host a wand making station at the Hometown Bank Plaza where kids of all ages can make their own wands, plus Main Street Kent will host a Wizardly World of Kent community “paint by number” art activity from 11am to 4pm. In addition, a Sorcery Stone Search will take place all weekend, where painted rocks will feature images and phrases from the vast Wizardly World. Find a stone, take a “selfie” with it and post to social media with the hashtag #KentWizRocks, then re-hide the stone to help spread more happiness! Local businesses are busy creating window displays, special menu and product offerings, and other surprises in the spirit of the event. There will be no road closures or outside vendors for Wizardly Weekend. “Creating fun activities for our community and visitors is one of the many things we do to keep our downtown vibrant and thriving. We’ve thought outside the typical event format of road closures and outside vendors in the interest of supporting our local businesses and creating fun things for people to do in downtown Kent this summer. It’ll be lots of fun!” shared Main Street Kent executive director Heather Malarcik.
