April 26 celebration features wildflower and conservation stations, demonstrations, and refreshments
GARRETTSVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) invites families and nature enthusiasts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves at Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve on Sunday, April 26. The event features hiking, exhibits, and information stations.
“For 50 years, Ohio’s rarest habitats, plants and animals have been protected within the state’s state nature preserves and scenic river systems,” said ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves’ Chief Jeff Johnson. “With its amazing array of native spring wildflowers, Eagle Creek is a wonderful place to celebrate the ecological diversity of habitats, plants, and wildlife protected by our state nature preserve system.”
ODNR’s Division of Natural Areas and Preserves will host a 50th anniversary celebration and open house at Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve on April 26.
Attendees are invited to hike “at their own pace” along several miles of trails, including the Meadowview and Beech Ridge trails which take visitors through an area of the preserve recently opened to the public. Natural resources experts will staff six information stations featuring Ohio native wildflowers, bogs, vernal pools, river ecology and stream monitoring, and ecomanagement.
